Trailhead Virtual Academy is a tuition-free, statewide online public school for Idaho students in grades K-8. Every child learns differently, and every family has their own reason for looking for something new. Whatever brought you here, we’re glad you found us.

How to Enroll

Step 1: Create an account for our Enrollment Portal.

  • Through the Enrollment Portal, you can complete your online application, receive real-time updates, and track your admissions status every step of the way.

Step 2: Complete admissions requirements.

  • Submit your child’s registration form and required documents using one of the convenient options below:

  • After submitting your application and required documents, continue checking your Enrollment Portal for status updates, missing items, and next steps. Our admissions team will contact you if additional information is needed.

Eligibility Requirements

Trailhead Virtual Academy serves full-time students in grades K-8 who meet the requirements of this policy and who are residents of the state of Idaho.

Kindergarten eligibility: 5 years old by September 1st 

If you are unable to provide any of the documents listed below, please contact the Enrollment Office for assistance.

Proof of Student Identity and Guardianship

Provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate (official or hospital-issued) showing the child’s legal name, date and place of birth, and parent(s)/legal guardian(s).

If a birth certificate is not available, you may submit:

  • Proof of Guardianship (court documentation), and
  • Proof of Identity (child’s passport or birth affidavit)

Proof of Residency

Provide one (1) of the following documents showing the parent/legal guardian’s name and current residential address where the student lives. P.O. Boxes are not accepted.

Acceptable Documents:

  • Utility bill (electric, gas, water, cable, home internet) dated within the last 90 days
  • Property deed or mortgage statement
  • Property tax bill
  • Lease or rental agreement showing (typically first and last page):
    • Property address
    • Lease start and end dates
    • Names and signatures of both the tenant and landlord
  • Paycheck Documentation dated within the last 90 days showing:
    • Employer name and address (or company logo)
    • Parent/legal guardian’s name and address
  • Military orders showing the physical address and parent/legal guardian information (for active-duty military families)

Immunization Record or Waiver

All public schools, including online public schools, require families to provide an immunization record or a completed exemption waiver for all students.

Special Services Documentation (If Applicable) If your child receives special education services or accommodations, please provide any available documentation, such as an IEP, 504 Plan, evaluation report, or related services plan. Submitting these documents at enrollment helps ensure a smooth transition and timely support

What does it cost TO ENROLL?

Trailhead Virtual Academy is a public school, and there is no tuition associated with enrollment. 

WHAT GRADES ARE OFFERED BY THE SCHOOL?

Trailhead Virtual Academy serves grades K-8.

WHAT SUBJECTS WILL MY CHILD TAKE?

We offer traditional core and elective courses options depending on the grade level. 

WILL MY STUDENT HAVE AN IDAHO-CREDENTIALED TEACHER?

Yes. Our teachers hold current Idaho teaching credentials.

DOES THE SCHOOL SUPPLY COURSE MATERIALS? 

Each student is provided with a school-issued computer for use throughout their enrollment at our school. Families may request a device during the online enrollment process. Students are also required to have access to a reliable high-speed internet connection to support daily learning activities.
 
Elementary students (Kindergarten – 3rd grade) are provided with physical workbooks to support their learning
